Where we come from
Greenwoods Counseling Referrals was founded in 1992 by the Rev. W. David Dobbins Jr., a Litchfield County Episcopal minister and counselor. Within a year, Dobbins had built a collaborative network to help clients—many uninsured or underemployed—access not only counseling but also medical, legal, and family services. Recognizing a strong willingness among local professionals to provide reduced-fee or pro bono care, he convened roundtables to formalize an organization equipped to address complex needs.
Over the past 29 years, Greenwoods has expanded its network and services, becoming a trusted, distinctive resource for mental health care across Litchfield County. Today, individuals facing depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction receive high-quality, coordinated care through Greenwoods. Despite its growth, the organization remains a small, community-based agency committed to a personal, intimate approach in all its programs and services.
